Four Red Triangles

Four Red Triangles sitting in my fridge,
I drink one,
That sweet taste my childhood’s dreams,
I learned fast.
Nothing’s what it seems.
There’s Three Red Triangles Sitting in my fridge.

Three Red Triangles sitting in my fridge,
I drink one,
And I think of you my childhood love,
And a fallacy,
Love can never be enough.
There’s Two Red Triangles Sitting in my fridge.

Two Red Triangles sitting in my fridge,
I drink one,
And I taste a memory I forgot,
Of a youth neglected,
A miracle I got the life I got,
There’s One Red Triangle Sitting in my fridge.

One Red Triangle sitting in my fridge,
I drink the last,
My childhood friend, a friend tonight,
One pint of Bass,
And everything will be alright,
But there’s no Red Triangle’s sitting in my fridge.

Betty Blue

“Hold me.”

Seeing the girl he loved lying on her bed, her face wracked with pain, forehead dripping with sweat, her body burning up, Tomas cursed them both for the choices which had brought them here. But recriminations could wait she was all that mattered now and so he raced to the bed to throw his arms around her. “Its Ok I’m here,” Tomas told her “I’ve got you.”

“Do you love me?”

“You know I do with all my heart. You’re all I’ve got, you’re all that matters to me.”

“But what about your exams they’re important.”

Stroking her hair Tomas tried to put a reassurance into his voice he didn’t feel, “I’ll be OK. Like I said you’re all that matters to me. My exams they’re not important. Are you all right?” Worried Tomas pulled back as her body convulsed in pain and seeing the pain in her eyes he wanted to cry.

“It hurts so much can’t you make it stop?”

“You know we can’t its got to be this way.”

“But please, it hurts.”

For a brief moment he could feel the pain in her voice battering down his resolve as he considered relenting, maybe just once wasn’t it better to ease the pain? Surely it would be better if they took it one step at a time. “No,” it took so much effort to say such a simple word, to deny her anything but it had to be this way.

“Please!”

Shaking his head Tomas cradled her in his arms, “we can get through this together” he told her. “It’s me and you we can get through anything,”

“Fuck off” she screamed as she pushed him back onto the bed and started to flail wildly at him, her fists striking his face so hard he had to cover his head in self defence. “You don’t know what its like for me you fucking bastard. Fuck you!” Her energy spent she collapsed on top of him and as he felt her sobs on his chest Tomas wrapped his arms around her and wished tonight was at an end.

Why tonight? Tomas wondered to himself why couldn’t they have waited until after he had finished his GCSE’s? Because she might not have survived that long and a life, her life was more important than whatever the future had install for him. What had brought them here? Stupidity, too much money and a desire for something different, he tried not to laugh, not wanting to disturb her now it seemed she was finally getting some sleep. But weren’t they just being teenagers? Experimenting but her need for greater and greater thrills had brought her to this even though he knew that characteristic was what had attracted him to her in the first place.

His friends had laughed the first time they had kissed and he knew hers had looked upon him with disdain but weren’t they the archetypal new nineties couple? The rich kid and the bit of rough, he knew her father hated him, had tried to buy her away from him but as she started screaming once more Tomas thought wryly to himself that whilst he was here right now playing a game of chance with his future where was Daddy? Not even she knew that!

Me and the Library

I met myself the three bears,
And little red riding hood,
I met myself the Dark Lord,
And knew he was up to no good.

I met myself King Arthur,
And his knights of the round table,
I met myself brave Hercules,
Read each of those Greek fables.

I met myself a superhero,
Met myself St George,
I met myself that preacher man,
Memorised his every word!

I met myself a red headed girl,
At the end of science fiction,
I met myself her mother,
As we were kissing in her kitchen!

I met myself many teachers,
They taught me about life,
I met myself a lover,
Who became my wife.

You gave me all that I have,
I met myself memories,
And in each I know you’re there,
I met myself me!

Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps

BAR
TOMAS is sat laughing with his friends around a table. TOMAS finishes his drink and looks around the table.
                                                TOMAS
                                    Anyone fancy another?
First two friends shake their heads. Third Friend looks at TOMAS.
                                                THIRD FRIEND
                                    Go on.
TOMAS picks up Third Friend’s pint glass.
                                                TOMAS
                                    Same again?
Third Friend nods his head. TOMAS carrying two pint glasses walks to the bar. At the bar TOMAS places the pint glasses on the bar. TOMAS looks down the bar and sees that there is one customer being served and one waiting. TOMAS watches as Customer 1 is served and barmaid asks what Customer 2 wants. Barmaid serves Customer 2 and then looks down the bar at TOMAS.
                                                TOMAS
Two pints of lager and a packet of crisps please!
Barmaid ignores TOMAS and turns and walks into the kitchen. TOMAS looks bemused. Barmaid 2 walks up from the cellar and TOMAS leans over the bar,
                                                TOMAS
Two pints of lager and a packet of crisps please!
Barmaid 2 ignores TOMAS. Barmaid leaves kitchen and seeing Barmaid 2 comes over and starts to talk to her. TOMAS tries to catch their attention and then when this doesn’t work.
                                                TOMAS
Two pints of lager and a packet of crisps!
Customer walks to the bar and Barmaid 2 walks over to him.
                                                BARMAID 2
                                    Yes love!
TOMAS is incredulous and when Barmaid looks at TOMAS
                                                TOMAS
                                    Hey what about me?
Barmaid smiles at TOMAS and then taking a packet of cigarettes out of her pocket:
                                                BARMAID
                                    Sorry I’m on a break.
Barmaid walks to the end of the bar and lights up her cigarette. TOMAS loses his temper and looking around sees the jukebox. TOMAS takes out a coin from his pocket and looking through the tunes on selection puts the coin in the jukebox and makes his selection. TOMAS walks to the bar and leaning over the bar turns the volume up to maximum. Barmaid 2 sees this and walks over to TOMAS.
                                                BARMAID 2
                                    Hey what you doing?
TOMAS points at the speaker on the bar and “Two Pints Of Lager and a Packet Of Crisps by Splogenessabounds” starts to play. Barmaid 2 looks at TOMAS blankly and then turns and walks towards Barmaid. TOMAS walks around the bar and standing next to Barmaid and Barmaid 2 rips the speaker off the wall places it on the bar. TOMAS starts to shout along with the song. Once the song has finished Barmaid looks at TOMAS as she stubs out her cigarette.
                                                BARMAID
                                    So who’s next?
TOMAS looks at Barmaid and then bangs his head against the bar.
THE END
